Occupational Therapist (Paediatrics)
Title: Senior Occupational Therapist
Purpose of the Position: To coordinate and implement the Occupational Therapy programmes for Paediatric clients with Neuro Physical Disabilities.
Reports to: Occupational Therapy Programme Manager
Contract: Whole time equivalent /Part Time – Permanent Contract
Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy (OT). If this qualification was gained outside the Republic of Ireland, it must have been validated by the Department of Health and Children.
- Must be CORU registered.
- Knowledge of the Irish Healthcare System.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English are essential.
- Must have relevant experience working in the area of Paediatric Neuro Disability.
Experience:
- It is essential that candidates have:
- Senior level or relevant clinical experience working in Paediatric Neuro Physical Disability services.
- The appointee must have experience with:
- Conducting developmental, motor, sensory and visual perceptual assessments, that inform intervention and service delivery.
- Ability to develop individualized goals in collaboration with our clients and families.
- Deliver specialist OT intervention based on client and family goals.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and team working skills.
- Ability to use your own initiative, work independently, and work as part of a team.
- Flexibility and openness to change are required.
- Commitment to on-going CPD
- It is desirable, but not essential that candidates have:
- Specialist CPD training relevant to the area.
- Post graduate training.
- Experience in Assistive Technology.
- Experience in wheelchair assessment and provision.
Job Description:
Crann is an out-patient neuro-physical disability service based in Cork, and we are looking for a dynamic, skilled OT to join our team. We serve clients with a range of diagnoses from congenital, progressive and acquired injuries. This new role will target delivering specialist neuro rehabilitation. The ‘2Gen’ Model of Care Approach is used in Crann to support both clients and families, the appointee will work within this innovative model.
Overview of Role & Professional Practice:
- Working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to co-ordinate and implement specialist Occupational Therapy for Clients with neuro -physical disabilities.
- Liaise with the Programme Manager and other staff to develop and co-ordinate total client care.
- Liaise with clients, their relatives/carers, other staff and outside agencies as required.
- Complete relevant clinical assessments and working with clients and families to identify goals
- Carry out agreed Occupational Therapy programmes/goals, both individual treatments, co-treatments and groups run alone or with other members of the treatment team.
- Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for clients to measure progress
- Crann has a strong commitment to research and part of the OT role will be contributing to research as is appropriate to the role.
- To participate in the evaluation and audit of practice associated with the programmes.
- Maintenance and provision of statistics, records and other information related to the treatment programme as required.
- Keep up to date with advances and new techniques and completing relevant CPD training.
- To be professionally, legally and ethically accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of clients in your care. Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- To understand clinical risk and manage effectively to ensure safety of clients, families, & colleagues,
- Maintain clinical records in accordance with professional standards/guidance.
- To comply with the AOTI Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and local Polices and monitor own quality of practice as appropriate.
- Participate in regular supervision with Occupational Therapy Programme Manager.
- In consultation with the Occupational Therapy Programme Manager, initiating and developing appropriate new ideas and methods in area(s) of responsibility.
- Participate in supervision and the professional development of Occupational Therapy students.
