Volunteer in India This Summer – Make a Real Difference!

SERVE, a Cork-based development & volunteering organisation, is calling Teachers, Special Needs Assistants, and Early Childcare Assistants to join our India Summer Placement in Bangalore! Work alongside our partners at Association of People with Disabilities (APD) and Sumanahalli Society, supporting vulnerable communities including people with disabilities, leprosy, and HIV/AIDS.

Your Role:
Volunteers get hands-on experience working with marginalised communities through:

  • Arts & crafts, music, dancing, games, and socialising

  • Assisting in schools, clinics, and rehabilitation centres

  • Minor hospital duties (training provided) for medical & nursing volunteers only

  • Workshops, vocational projects, and community mobilisation

Where You’ll Stay:

  • NSK Centre: All volunteers start here. APD volunteers stay full-time; Sumanahalli volunteers stay there weekends, commuting to placements during the week.

About Our Partners:

  • APD: Since 1959, APD empowers people with disabilities through education, vocational training, rehabilitation, and advocacy. Volunteers may help with rural rehabilitation projects, therapy, teaching, or youth work.

  • Sumanahalli Society: A vast 60-acre leprosy & HIV rehabilitation centre offering residential care, schools, vocational units (candles, leather, garments), and young offender rehabilitation. Volunteers get to work across multiple projects depending on skills and interests.

Programme Details:

  • Duration: 4 weeks in July 2026

  • Pre-departure Training: 3 Saturdays in Cork (March – May 2026)

  • Debrief & Evaluation: Sept 2026

  • Volunteer Positions: Unpaid (€3,495 programme cost; fundraising applies)

  • Support: SERVE follows Comhlámh’s Code of Good Practice—full support before, during, and after placement
